Twenty-Four Tastes Tea (廿四味涼茶)

The twenty-four tastes tea is the most common Chinese herb tea to the Cantonese.

Cleistocalyx operculatus (水翁花), Morns alba (桑葉), Dendranthema indicum (金菊花), Lonicera japonica (金銀花) and Imperata koenigii (白茅根) are some of the main ingredients of the twenty-four tastes tea. The tea has many different ingredients as people in the past wanted to cure more diseases and have better effects in one goal, they added in herbs of different effects. As time goes on, the original formula for the tea has already lost, but the different modified versions of the formula is available. Chinese doctors adjust the ingredients by adding in or stop using some herbs in the tea and obtain the general effect of removing heat and wet deposited in the body. Some may even heal influenza depending on the herbs used.

Due to the cold nature of the tea, it is not suitable for people with poor physique, pregnant women and females in the menstruation period. Because of the various medicinal herbs used in the tea, people who are taking other medicines or those allergic to food are not recommended to try the tea. Other than the above cases, the tea is generally suitable for most of the people.
